Karnataka to amalgamate handloom & powerloom boards

The Karnataka State Government is considering amalgamation of the Karnataka Handloom Development Corporation and Karnataka Powerloom Development Corporation to constitute Karnataka Textile Infrastructure Development Corporation, which is expected to give a booster shot to the state's textile industry.
Textile Minister, Gulihatti Shekar, while conversing with the press divulged that, the proposal is before the Cabinet which would soon decide on the matter.
The Government has also introduced a package for betterment of lives of those living in the Naxal-hit areas. A powerloom of around Rs. 15,000 to Rs. 20,000, working capital of Rs. 20,000 to be given on completion of training and another Rs. 60,000 for building a house, constitute the components of the package.
The Minister divulged that, they have already started imparting training to 160 families in Chikmagalur and Udupi regions.
