The Tamil Nadu Handloom Weavers' Co-operative Society, widely known as Co-optex, is a state run enterprise. Over the past four years, it has recorded a 76 percent hike in its sales.

Co-optex recorded a turnover of around Rs 1.8 billion in 2009-10, against Rs 1.027 billion, the undertaking had registered in 2005-06.

The launch of over 2,000 designs in several segments through 206 shows which were organized between 2009 and 2010 brought about this hike in sales.

The enterprise is planning to launch over 750 fresh designs in cotton apparels to meet the requirements of consumers during the festive occasion of Diwali.

Over 600 weavers have been trained to improve the existing 600 designs which have been produced by Co-optex.
