The 69th Plenary Meeting of the International Cotton Advisory Committee in Lubbock, TX included a Cotton Promotion Workshop presented by the International Forum for Cotton Promotion.
The workshop, sponsored by Cotton Incorporated and Cotton Council International, took place on September 23, 2010 and allowed attendees from around the world to share best practices for generic cotton promotion from their individual countries. In addition to the Cotton Promotion Workshop, the Plenary Meeting also focused on other key issues of interest to all countries and sectors of the cotton industry.
The International Cotton Advisory Committee (ICAC) initiated the International Forum for Cotton Promotion (IFCP) in 2002 to facilitate the exchange of generic cotton demand enhancement techniques. The goal of this exchange is for member countries to share promotional ideas and replicate programs viable to their own markets.
This year marked the first time that the IFCP Cotton Promotion Workshop has convened in the U.S. since 2004, when Cotton Incorporated and Cotton Council International hosted 25 IFCP members and representatives at the Cotton Incorporated world headquarters in Cary, N.C. At that meeting, the full range of U.S. cotton promotional activities, including: television and print advertising; trade advertising; retail programs; and industry workshops were presented and became the springboard for cotton promotional activities in other countries.
According to IFCP Executive Director Jeffrey Silberman, “the IFCP supports demand enhancement of all cottons, regardless of country of origin, fiber length, or agriculture system, and considers itself to be technology neutral. It is very gratifying to see these new cotton promotion programs in the planning stages or already underway.
