Tribal Area Chamber of Commerce & Industry (TACCI) has urged for sanctioning a 50 percent concession in yarn imports and power bills of silk mills and power-looms of Swat region, to offset the losses suffered by them.
Mohammad Akbar Khan, President TACCI, put forward these demands while he convened a meeting with a group of representatives from Swat Silk Owners Association on September 29.
The Chamber also requested for granting zero-interest loans to entrepreneurs in the power-loom sector, low transportation cost for consignments of silk units, and subsidy for modernization of infrastructure.
Military operations have caused the silk industry to undergo losses that run in millions of rupees, the representative group informed the TACCI President and added that, despite of repeatedly updating the concerned authorities in this regards, the sector has not received any sort of financial help either from the side of government or any non-governmental organization.
The delegation even stated that, militancy and terrorism have traumatized the functioning of the industry.
