Madhya Pradesh is known for its handicraft and handloom products throughout the country. The Madhya Pradesh Handicrafts and Handloom Development Corporation came up with a project to boost the work of the craftsmen and weavers of the state by involving them in one of the most esteemed global sports event – the Common Wealth Games (CWG).

It is a matter of great respect for the state as it has been decided that the winners of the CWG will be honored with the Chanderi stoles designed and manufactured by the weavers of Ashoknagar district of Madhya Pradesh.

Around 13 samples of stoles with different artistic designs and the CWG mascot were sent to the CWG organizing committee for final selection. The logo of the games was also weaved into the cloth. The samples were prepared on the basis of flag colors of around 11 nations. Around 7400 such stoles have been produced by 75 weavers using 25 looms.

Chanderi weavers are world famous for their craftsmanship. The Chanderi silk-cotton saris have great demand and have already made their mark in the global market. These weavers worked round the clock for almost a year's time to produce the stoles for CWG. Even though the designing process was totally new and challenging for the weavers, but they were successful in achieving their target.
