Govt to launch National Skill Development Policy for textiles

With an objective of capacity building of Institutions providing skill development & training in Textiles Sector, Dr. Kalaignar M. Karunanidhi , Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu will launch a new Integrated Skill Development Scheme for the Textiles & Apparel Sector, including Jute & Handicrafts, an initiative of Union Textiles Ministry at a function in Chennai today.
Thiru. Dayanidhi Maran , Union Textiles Minister , Thiru. G.K. Vasan , Union Minister of Shipping and Thiru. Parithi Llamvazhuthi , Minister for Information, Tamil Nadu will be the Chief Guest at the function.
New Scheme is in line with the Policy announcement of the Government, in the Current Five Year Plan. The Finance Minister, in his budget speech in the current year had announced launching of a new scheme in Textiles Sector envisaging skill development of 30 lakh persons in 5 years. In the National Skill Development Policy, a sectoral target of training 100 lakh persons by the year 2022 in the Textile sector has been fixed.
