In a bid to secure robust growth for the carpet industry, the Central Carpet Association has petitioned the government to devise new modified strategies.
Without much ado, the government should induce favourable circumstances to boost carpet exports, the Association said, and added that, it is obligatory on the part of the government to devise a realistic and reasonable policy to fix the compensation for industry workers.
The Association is also calling for setting up of a carpet development institute, and earning a distinct recognition for the products by way of promoting it as a brand.
Further, it seeks impartation of skill-oriented training to industry workers, and also to provide cost free education and medical facilities to children of these workers.
Carpet exports declined from 1,149,895 sq. metres in 2007-08 to 681,899 sq. metres in 2009-10.
