Nigeria in order to revive its dwindling textile sector has now called upon India for help.
A delegation from India which is on a visit to Nigeria has been requested to provide assistance by providing Nigeria with cotton varieties with high yields and also new varieties of cotton, so that the country can better face the competition while meeting the domestic demand.
Official statistics reveal of India being Nigeria's second most leading trading associate, and that the combined trade volume between the two touches around $10.3 billion.
The Nigerian government too is endeavouring to extend support to the industry in various forms like support for cotton cultivation, nurturing the crop, promoting its use in textile industry and its application to any other relevant use and also has announced a revival fund.
The country is determined to see that its textile industry once again resumes its original strength. The textile manufacturers have therefore been directed to list down all possible areas where they require any sort of assistance and where India can be helpful, and submit the same to government within seven days.
