Sactwu seeks prosecution of non-compliant factories
Oct '10
As per a proposal, employers who do not obey bargaining council agreements will be criminally prosecuted, by the national bargaining council of clothing industry in association with the South African Clothing and Textile Workers Union (Sactwu).

Around 385 firms have been identified as the worst offenders by the industry's national compliance drive that had commenced at the end of last year. 372 of these 385 companies having been censured for non-compliance.

The compliance measures, which were not instituted by these companies, include payment of minimum wages, levy payments and registration with the council.

Owing to the raids undertaken, by the bargaining council, at firms which had failed to pay a minimum wage of R324 a week, Chinese-owned factories based in Newcastle downed their shutters in the month of August.

Sactwu will campaign for the criminalization of the owners of non-compliant factories.
