The Pakistan Government has slashed the customs duty on import of pure terephthalic acid (PTA), an input for manufacturing polyester yarn from seven percent to three percent.
On the other hand, customs duty in respect of polyethylene terephthalate, raw material for bottle resin has been hiked from 7.5 percent to 9 percent. Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) announced this change in the duty structure through a notification.
Further, the FBR has also ended all tax concessions previously available on import of 12 kinds of raw materials and several other types of yarns used by the textile sector.
Textured yarn (nylon), mixed staple fibre, polyester and other types of yarn, yarn made from mixed wool and other products are all included in the list of inputs in respect of which the duty concessions have been ended.
