An assessment made of the technological level of China's textile industry has arrived at the conclusion that, the Chinese textile sector is now nearly at par with the technological competence of Japan, due to the huge government budgetary outlay.
According to the report commissioned by the Japan Chemical Fibers Association, the Chinese government has invested at an average of ¥44 billion in each of the past five years till 2010, to develop advanced textile technology.
In sharp contrast, the Economy, Trade and Industry Ministry's yearly textile-related budget is just ¥1.5 billion.
The study notes that, China has 15 universities devoted to textile-related research and development, while Chinese students and researchers after having studied in the United States brought home the latest textile technology.
The study concludes by observing that, China seeks to become a global center in textile-related technological development and at the same time maintain its global superiority as the world's production and consumption center.
