Syria and France together have examined ways to raise the competitiveness of the Syrian textile industry with the help of French technology.
Assistant Minister of Industry Rashad al-A'assa while addressing the Syrian-French Workshop stated that, the workshop showcased the most modern technology from France, specially designed for the textile industry.
He said that, at the workshop, they talked about various means for upgrading the Syrian textile industry, and about making its products more competitive so that they meet world quality standards and prices.
Sylvie Sturel, Economic Advisor at the French Embassy, highlighted the significance of this workshop, which came as a part of the agenda of a recent deal entered into between the Ministries of Industries of France and Syria. The deal was mainly intended at exchanging the know-how and getting accustomed with the latest technologies.
The workshop jointly organized by the Syrian Ministry of Industry and the Economic Service Center at the French Embassy is being attended by 12 companies from France, she stated.
Textile exports from Syria grew to SYP 95 billion (1USD= 46 SYP) in terms of value in 2008, as against just 17.6 billion in 2005.
