TEA President requests PM to save knitwear export sector

In a press release issued, Shri.A.Sakthivel, President of Tirupur Exporters' Association said that he has sent a representation to Dr.Manmohan Singh, Hon'ble Prime Minister requesting for his immediate intervention to postpone the cotton exports to 15th January 2011 and ban the cotton yarn exports for availability of cotton yarn in the domestic market.

We have also sent a copy of the representation to Shri.Pranab Mukherjee, Hon'ble Union Minister of Finance, Thiru.Dayanidhi Maran Hon'ble Union Minister of Textiles, Shri.Anand Sharma, Hon'ble Union Minister for Commerce & Industry and Shri.Jyotiraditya Scindia, Hon'ble Minister of State for Commerce & Industry.

May we be permitted to make a note that the Hon'ble Prime Minister has been taking a lot of positive measures to steering the country to have a GDP Growth of 8.5% and now our country is one of the first which bounced back after global recession. We hope the performances in all spheres of our country will create records in the coming days and reach its real position, true to its potential.

We also request to implement the following measures to control cotton prices.

• Cotton should be brought under essential commodities act.
• Cotton procurement should be done on Actual User Condition basis, so that the speculation and hoarding can be avoided.
