Cotton demand gap to expand in new season
Nov '10
China's cotton imports registered 200,800 tons in September 2009, a decline of 16.37 percent from the previous month, but an increase of 96.86 percent year on year. China's cotton imports totaled 2.165 million tons from January to September, up 100.73 percent year on year.

China's total cotton imports recorded 440,900 tons in August and September, representing an ascent of 108.31 percent, year on year. China is expected to produce 7.04 million tons of cotton according to August forecast of National Cotton Market Monitoring System.

Actual demand gap stood at 4.19 million tons in the 2009-10 cotton season, but actual imports were small, due to which domestic cotton stock substantially declined, thus, demand gap is expected to reach 4.4 million tons in the new 2010-11 cotton season.
