Soaring demand forces lint price to rise

Traders at Karachi Cotton Association (KCA) stated that trading continued to remain range-bound in the midst of strong physical price and escalating spot rate of cotton lint owing to the soaring demand. Brokers revealed that the physical prices of cotton continued to remain at about Rs 11,650 per maund whereas prices of cottonseed also remained steady at about Rs 5,000 per maund.

Higher international price of cotton is forcing the major customers to strengthen their long standing in the market. In spite of the higher price of cotton lint, cotton lint trading remained steady with enhanced volumes at the markets in Sindh and Punjab.

As cotton lint trading took place on the basis of future delivery, the spot rate at KCA mounted by Rs 500 per maund to remain at Rs 10,500 per maund.

The cotton lint prices within the domestic market have been affected by the upward trend in the New York market as well as the higher asking price by Indian traders. Punjab continued to remain the volume leader as over 12,000 bales of cotton lint were traded, which fetched higher prices during the business.
