The first lady of America, Ms. Michelle Obama following her visit to the National Handloom and Handicrafts Museum in Delhi, bought handicraft items, which represented the unique tradition and culture of each Indian state, from each and every stall. She even visited each and every corner of the Charles Correa-designed museum to have a view of rural and tribal life of India as well as its crafts.
Ms. Obama endorsed each state through her handicraft products purchase. She purchased a fine navy blue Kashmiri pashmina shawl, a traditional black-and-white Naga sarong and lacquered wooden toys from Andhra, embroidered bags from Gujarat, Rajasthani bedcovers, postcards with Madhubani motifs and a number of items representing other Indian states.
She has an eye for the unusual and likes mix and match style. She was highly impressed and fascinated by the wide range of exhibits that she came across during her visit in India.
