Cotton growers from Aurangabad district in Maharashtra have urged the government that they should be compensated as continuous rains have damaged cotton crops in neighbouring villages.
Meanwhile, they have also put forward their demand for protective schemes, such as insurance schemes like the ones provided to factory owners. These are necessary because calamities ruin the farmers to such an extent that they have no other way out but to commit suicide.
Farmers in the region were targeting to produce around 190 quintals of crop this season, but lost about 40 quintals of crop due to continuous heavy rainfall. Apart from cotton, the rains have also devastated other vegetable crops and have left the farmers in a state of misery.
