The Governing Committee of the Confederation of Indian Textile Industry (CITI) is meeting in Mumbai on Monday, 22nd November 2010, 3.30 pm, at Hotel Grand Hyatt, Mumbai, to discuss these issues. After the meeting, Office Bearers of CITI and other senior leaders of the industry would brief the press and media on the factual position of both prices and availability of fibres and yarn in the country.

There have been steep increases in the prices of cotton, manmade fibres and cotton yarn in recent times. The value added segments of the textile value chain have been highlighting the increase in cotton yarn prices and demanding restrictions on its exports as a means of reducing cotton yarn prices. They have also been alleging yarn shortage in the country.

Textile industry believes that the increase in yarn prices is because of increase in fibre prices and there is no shortage of yarn in any parts of the country. Data available from official sources proves this unequivocally.
