Textiles Ministry Organises Handicrafts Week all over India

With a view to provide a platform to the master crafts persons for marketing and showcasing their products, the Office of Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Ministry of Textiles, is celebrating, all over India, “Handicrafts Week” from 6th to 20th December, 2010. As part of “Handicraft Week”, “A CRAFT CARNIVAL – Handicraft Sourcing Show” is being organized here at Dilli Haat, Opp. INA Market.

Over 170 Master Crafts Persons are showcasing their exclusive products for sale to the public.

For the first time, Buyer Seller Meet was organized yesterday to enable bulk buyers/exporters to interact with the Craft Persons directly so as to understand the problems relating to marketing and to develop regular business relationship.

This meet was attended by 50 potential buyers/exporters. From the Govt. of India side, Smt. Rita Menon, Secretary (Textiles) and Shri R.N. Choubey, Development Commissioner (Handicrafts) alongwith his team of Officers attended.

Shri Sunil Sethi, President, Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) shared his experience in the supply of various handicrafts products, demand and supply, competition from neighboring countries like China and to overcome the problems so that the exports can be strengthened.

Secretary (Textiles) in her address mentioned that there are schemes with the Ministry to develop the infrastructure facilities under PPP mode.

The organizations such as Handicrafts and Handlooms Exports Corporation of India Ltd.(HHEC), Central Cottage Industries Corporation of India Ltd.(CCIC) and Fab India mentioned that their team of officers are moving around the stalls for placing orders.

It is learnt that the agencies participated placed on spots orders worth Rs.2.50 crore for supply of various products.
