All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA) has commended the assurance given by the Prime Minister of Pakistan regarding the supply of gas for five days in a week to the textile sector in Punjab and called it as an outstanding decision. The association also pointed out that the timely intervention of the Prime Minister has safeguarded the sector from immense loss.

Last week, the APTMA leadership had issued a seven-day ultimatum to the government to resume the gas supply to the textile sector. The final warning came against last week's notice put forward by the SNGPL postponing the gas supply to the sector for indefinite period.

APTMA had given the details regarding the slash in gas supply to the textile sector for 100 days in the previous fiscal year and 36 days in the current fiscal year. These details were put forward in a high level meeting.

APTMA further pointed out that the SNGPL management has defied the decision taken by the Federal Cabinet by keeping the issue of gas shortage confined to the Punjab province where the textile sector is offering employment to millions of workers and at the same time bringing in valuable foreign currency for the country.

The Prime Minister has given instructions to the concerned authorities to resume the gas supply for five days in a week to the textile sector in Punjab province.
