Handicrafts export exceeds target in first two quarters

The export award was introduced in 1989 by Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts (EPCH) under aegis of Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India. The objective is to create healthy competition amongst the exporters and to encourage them for holistic competition in achieving excellence in export performance in order to qualify for award. These awards encourages those who have received awards to do better in future and also encourages those who have not received award to try and do better so that they also receive award in future. The export award is a coveted recognition and the award adds to the status of the company and their credibility in the International market.
Thiru Maran, while distributing awards, appreciated the performance of EPCH in achieving the export target for the year and exhorted exporters to adopt product innovation, technology upgradation, create appropriate marketing linkages both in domestic and International market to sustain the momentum of growth in exports. He also advised them to be more aggressive in the export marketing.
Speaking on the occasion, Smt. Rita Menon, Secretary, Ministry of Textiles, said that Handicrafts sector is very important in the Indian economy as this sector is employment generative for economically and socially backward sections of the society and also helps the economy in increasing its foreign exchange earnings. The Ministry of Textiles, therefore, supports and encourages the sector through schemes and plans connected with the development of handicrafts sector on the whole, she added.
The Minister of State for Textiles, Smt. Panabaka Lakhshmi, Smt. Rita Menon, Secretary, Textiles, Mrs. Alka Arora, Addl. Development Commissioner ( Handicrafts), Shri A. Sakhthivel, President, Federation of Indian Export Organisations, Shri Raj Kumar Malhotra, Chairman-EPCH and Executive Director- EPCH Mr. Rakesh Kumar were present during the ceremony. Other luminaries from the trade and industry, officials of the Government, Industry association and members of the foreign buying community were also present.
