Federal Minister for Commerce, Makhdoom Amin Fahim, while speaking at the recently held executive committee meeting of the All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA) at APTMA house, said that the cotton yarn exports should not be subjected to any duty imposition and that he himself is against it.

He thereby announced to convene monthly meetings with all the stakeholders to discuss and sort out their problems.

While speaking about the continuity of trade policy as a mechanism that drives the development of any industry, he said that, last time though the Commerce Ministry drafted a three-year trade policy, but he personally is in support of a five-year trade policy.

The Minister also assured the APTMA members that all their problems will be resolved, and that the Ministry of Commerce is well aware about the issues of the textile industry, but is taking time to solve these issues as the matter even concerns the other Ministries. Further, he even stated that as the government has contacted the WTO for earning zero-duty access for cotton yarn exports to the EU, the problem is likely to be resolved soon.
