Cotton acreage to return to previous years levels

The Ministry of Agriculture held a conference on national farming in Beijing on December 23.
Vice-Minister of Agriculture, Wei Chao An stressed in his speech that farm output has achieved significant achievements this year, making outstanding contributions to overall economic and social development.
Grain output hit another record high and production remained over 1 trillion Jin (1 Chinese Jin = 0.5 kilogram), becoming the highlight of this year's economic development.
Wei Chao An proposed that the main task in next year's season is to promote stable development of grain production by doing everything possible, to ensure food production stays over 1 trillion Jin.
He said that China would strive to return to 80 million Mu (1 hectare = 15 Chinese Mu) of cotton acreage next year by focusing on exploitation of potential for cotton production in northwest.
