SK Energy, a South Korean petrochemical major has completed construction of the world's first naphtha cracking facility using advanced catalytic olefin technology (ACO) at Ulsan and has recently began test operations.
The new ACO technology will help reduce carbon dioxide emissions and energy costs by 20 percent when compared with conventional methods.
The naphtha cracking process, normally requires a temperature of 850 degree Celsius, however, this new process requires temperature of just under 700 degree Celsius.
The new plant has the capacity to produce 40,000 tons of both propylene and ethylene.
