Output of cotton during 2010-11 is going to touch 30.8 million bales as per the estimation of the South India Cotton Association (SICA) against the much promising estimate of 32.548 million bales of cotton made by the Cotton Advisory Board in the month of August.
According to SICA, agro-climatic conditions prevailing in various cotton-producing states of India have significantly altered the cotton production situation.
As per the estimates of SICA, Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan are expected to produce 4.4 million bales of cotton, Gujarat 10.5 million bales, Maharashtra 7 million bales, Madhya Pradesh 1.6 million bales, Andhra Pradesh 5.5 million bales, Karnataka 0.9 million bales, Tamil Nadu 0.5 million bales and other states 0.4 million bales in the cotton growing year of 2010-11.
Cotton arrivals in the market, so far, have surpassed the mark of 10 million bales throughout the country which is similar to the cotton arrival figure of last year.
