In spite of the low premium and high advantages that the insurance schemes guarantee, these schemes have failed to attract the handloom weavers in Uttarakhand.
At present, two insurance schemes have been offered for the state handloom weavers. But both these schemes practically failed to take off.
Majority of the weavers inhabit the remote corners of the state and are therefore unaware of the benefits extended by the insurance schemes.
The state has about 22,000 to 28,000 weavers' families but less than 5 percent of these families actually take advantage of the schemes.
