Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation of Egypt, Said Amin Abaza, revealed that he had issued directives for Agricultural Research Centre (ARC) to allot 500 thousand acres of land under seed cotton cultivation this year following the yarn crisis and the hike in cotton prices which had touched 1800 pounds and had compelled several spinning and weaving units to stop their operations.
The minister also issued a map indicating the areas which will be put under cotton cultivation and also specifying the best cotton varieties that will be cultivated in each province.
President of the Agricultural Research Centre – Dr. Ayman Farid Abu Hadid, stated that the centre will produce seed cotton in the areas which have been sanctioned by the Agriculture Minister. He further added that there is a need to plan budgets as well as formulate a new five-year plan in order to extend the necessary assistance to the ARC.
