The Textile, Clothing and Footwear sector, in pursuance of a marketing grant of $ 300,000 extended by the government is looking forward to increase its exports to $150 million and hiring 6,000 new workers over the next three years.

According to Kalpesh Solanki, Managing Director of Ranjit Garments who also serves as President of the TCF Council, the grant underpins TCF Council's continued efforts to generate marketing awareness. He said that, so far their marketing idea has met with good response.

He said that, they would continue developing the initiatives that they put into action last year and would work in partnership with the government. The industry is trying to gain back its lost position by raising its productivity, improving the quality and enhancing the marketing initiatives, he added.

Also, the TCF Council last year, sent a group of representatives from seven 'Make it in Fiji' certified units to Melbourne to take part in a trade exposition. Solanki said that, they had met with heartening response from the Australian importers and the same has also elevated the industry profile.

The country during 2009 exported around $90 million worth of textile, clothing and footwear items.
