Tex-Trends begins; need to monitor retail index - Textile Minister

The Textiles Minister expressed his happiness over huge response it got from the global buyers across USA, UK, Turkey, Germany, and Canada. It is for the first time that 11 Textiles Councils have joined hands to show case the strength of India in the entire value chain of Textiles and Apparel sector including Handicrafts and Jute sectors at one place, Thiru Maran added.
Considering huge domestic market, Thiru Maran said several international brands are entering retail market. In view of this, Thiru Maran stressed the need of monitoring retail index , which will provide a better understanding of the growing Indian economy .
In her address, Tmt Panabaaka Lakshmi , Minister of State for Textiles said that the Government is implementing several schemes for facilitating proper growth of textiles industry .
The inaugural function of Tex-Trends 2011 was attended representatives of all Textiles Export Promotion Councils , exhibitors , senior officers of the Textiles and Commerce Ministries. The Show will remain open till 4th February.
