Surat-based Garden Silk Mills Limited is likely to launch a biaxially oriented polyester (BOPET) polyfilm project for textile as well as packaging film manufacturing sector with an overall investment of Rs 6.8 billion and also increase the capacity of its continuous polymerization (CP), partially oriented yarn (POY) and full drawn yarn (FDY).
Garden Silk Mills Limited is India's biggest manufacturer of polyester for film production. The company intends to produce a range of polyester chips for the textile as well as film production sector from the BOPET project. Currently, it is manufacturing 1,450 tons of polyester chips every day. The production capacity is likely to be enhanced by another 600 tons per day once the proposed expansion is completed.
The new polyfilm project is expected to give a major impetus to the company's future plans and efforts. The company was set up way back in 1921 when it was operating as a small weaving unit. But over the years, it has evolved as a vertically integrated company worth Rs 30 billion and also emerged as a chief producer of polyester chips, fabrics and filament yarns throughout the world.
