According to the State Governor of Lagos, Babatunde Fashola, the Federal Government's new importation policy of lifting the ban on imports of goods which were previously prohibited, would raise the ratio of joblessness in the country.
The official stated this while speaking to the members of the Ambassadors Club at the University of Lagos, Akoka, during a youth empowerment programme.
He said that, as per the Federal Government's recent directions, banned products like clothing and textiles are still accessible in the Nigerian market, and the best way out is to legally allow their importation into the country.
It is interesting to note that, the decision of lifting the ban on textile imports has come about within a few months of the Federal Government's move of allocating N50 billion for refurbishment of the country's textile industry.
