A considerable rise has been noted in hand-woven carpet's exports from Iran, both in terms of volume and value.
The initial 11 months of the current Iranian calendar year that started on March 21, 2010 saw country's hand-woven carpets export growing by 10 percent, from a year ago.
The overall value of the carpets exported during the period came to $473 million. The volume of exports stood at 7,000 tons, up 5.5 percent.
Iran is the world's biggest exporter of hand-woven carpets, and exports carpets to over 100 countries across the world. The Persian rugs, mainly remain in great demand for their intricate design and skilful making.
Iran is a home to around 1.2 million weavers who are engaged in manufacturing of carpets. The country each year churns out around five million square meters of carpets, 80 percent of which are exported.
