“A new textile policy is being formulated to exploit opportunities presented by cotton grown in the state of Maharashtra”, said the Governor, Mr K Sankaranarayanan.
He was addressing the state legislature on the opening day of the budget session.
He said, “If the entire cotton produced in Maharashtra is processed fully within the state, it has the capacity to create job opportunities for around one million people”.
“A textile policy is being framed to make use of these opportunities. Cotton production centres will be paid higher incentives under the policy”, he added by saying.
