According to Federation of Handicraft Association of Nepal (FHAN), the time has ripened for the Nepali handicraft industry which till now has remained concentrated towards the conventional markets, to explore new destinations.
In view of this, the industry is now eyeing expansion in Poland and Czech Republic's markets. FHAN as such is carrying out preliminary discussions with the Embassy of the Poland and Czech Republic for the purpose.
Moreover, the Federation together with the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) and International Coordination Council (ICC) is also active on the front of earning recognition for and promotion of the Nepali handicrafts in foreign countries.
Presently, Nepali handicraft items are shipped to over 85 countries across the globe.
The initial three months of the current fiscal year saw the country's overall handicraft exports rising by 8.91 percent to Rs. 903.5 million.
However, the Federation stated that, in the times of growing competition it is imperative for the sector to look beyond the conventional markets and explore new destinations to boost its exports.
Also it suggested that the industry should efficiently mould and upgrade itself to catch up with the changing world markets to retain its competitiveness.
