Solar Nation has announced the installation and commissioning of an 876kW solar-electric system on the Sunham Home Fashions Distribution Center in New Providence, New Jersey. Sunham Home Fashions installed the solar-electric system to reduce and stabilize energy costs and to follow through on its long-standing commitment to environmental stewardship.

The 130,000 square foot solar-electric system was designed, engineered, and installed by Solar Nation. The rooftop array is comprised of 3,575 SolarWorld 245 watt solar panels, manufactured in the U.S. In addition to the panels, the system incorporates two SMA America inverters and a Draker Laboratories web-based monitoring system. Clean, renewable energy generated by the system would be enough to power up to 83 homes and will meet 100% of Sunham's electricity needs, providing immediate savings for the company.

The installation of the solar-electric system is part of Sunham Home Fashions continuing dedication to environmental impact reduction. It is estimated that the Sunham solar-electric system will cut greenhouse gas emissions by 618 metric tons annually—the equivalent CO2 offset of 32,000 trees or reducing automobile usage by 1,015,000 miles.

“We want this installation to be an example for other businesses,” explained Arthur Courbanou, Chief Operating and Financial Officer of Sunham Home Fashions. “Renewable energy is not just a smart environmental policy; it's smart business. We hope our success can help convince other companies to implement green-energy practices in their day-to-day operations.”

“Sunham Home Fashions has a passion for quality and service and a commitment to sustainability. We are proud that they chose Solar Nation to further that commitment. By installing an advanced solar-electric system, Sunham Home Fashions will realize immediate and long-term savings that will make them an even stronger business, an even stronger employer, all the while reducing emissions and helping the environment,” said Paul Hodge, Chief Executive Officer of Solar Nation.

Established in 1974, Sunham Home Fashions is one of the largest importers of home textile products in the United States. Recognized for its uncompromising attention to quality, detail, customization, creativity and service, Sunham supplies home textiles to leading retailers nationwide.
