Textiles Committee conducts GI workshop on handicrafts at Ahmedabad

During the plenary session, panel of experts comprising Mr G.L. Verma, Deputy Registrar, Geographical Indication Registry, Government of India, Chennai, Mr Subodh Kumar, Head, Andhra Pradesh Technology Development & Promotion Centre (APTDC), Hyderabad and , Mr R Sankar, Principal Scientific Officer Ahmedabad Textiles Research Association held discussions on the vital aspects of GI.
Mr T.K. Rout, Market Research Officer, Textiles Committee and Mr Subodh Kumar, both made brief power point presentations highlighting GI issues and the initiative, as a whole.
The interactive workshop raised several questions from among the artisan audiences; particularly from Khambhat and Patan over specific GI for Patolas.
However, Dr Nayak satisfied most of the queries while concluding that more information and interaction would definitely help the cause of GI in the longer run and promote the cause of Indian traditional handicrafts which required attention necessary support from all corners.
