While pointing towards the enormous potential of Sudan in textiles, which makes it a leading country in the sphere of the textile industry, Awad Ahmed Al-Jazz, Minister of Industry avowed that his Ministry is keen on developing the industry.
Recently, the Minister convened a meeting with the workers of the El-Duwaim and Kosti textile factories where he stated that, development of the textile sector would be taken up as a part of the efforts to attain self-reliance and to boost value addition.
He emphasized on the significance of concentrating on the cotton sector as a leading arm of the country's textile industry, and even fixed specific dates for revival and recommencement of the textile units of Shendi El-Duwaim, Kosti and Al-Haj Abdullah, in accordance with certain socio-economic plans.
Further, Dr. Al-Jazz even requested the Textile Committee at the Ministry of Industry and the administrators of the above units to look after the training and setting up of operations chambers in their units, in order to ensure sustainability of these units.
Moreover, he also underscored the significance of enhancing co-ordination between the administrations of these units and the state governments.
He fixed December 2011 as the date for commencement of revitalization process of the textile industry in Sudan.
