Dr Mirza Ikhtiar Baig, the Advisor on Textiles to the Prime Minister has requested the President; Mr Zardari to look in to the matter of Turkey, imposing an additional custom duty on exports of textiles from Pakistan.
He said that export of denim fabrics to Turkey from Pakistan will attract additional duty of 18 percent over and above the 6.5 percent imposed currently, taking the total duty to 24.5 percent.
He added by saying that Turkey is one of the key importers of grey and denim fabrics from Pakistan and a roll-back of this duty would go a long way in boosting the prospects of the textile sector.
