The 38th Cotton Conference was recently convened at Aleppo under the management of Cotton Research Administration.

While speaking at the Conference, Ali Ahmed Mansoura, Governor of Aleppo stressed on the significance of cotton, which is a premeditated agricultural product in Syria, owing to the considerable monetary revenues that it generates.

He emphasized on the need to lay down precise scientific estimates to achieve better productivity, reflecting that the natural and atmospheric changes have had a direct negative impact on production.

Moreover, he also spoke about enhanced collaboration amongst the concerned bodies for implementation of the premeditated plans and to get the best sapling which can acclimatize with climatic changes and weather conditions.

He even underlined the significance of using modern irrigation techniques to further boost the agriculture and cut down on waste of water.

Syria is amongst the world's top 10 cotton producing countries, Nabi Rashid Mohammad, Assistant of Caretaker Minister of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform said.

He added that, there has been a considerable rise in the use of biological control of blights, as around 9,000 hectares of land was under it last year, and the Ministry of Agriculture intends to bring around 40,000 hectares of agricultural land under it this year, he added.
