Chinese silk goods exports decline in Jan-Feb

According to China Customs statistics, China's silk exports registered a negative growth rate of 2.18 percent during the first two months of this year. On the other hand, average unit price recorded an increase of 49.94 percent on year to year basis for the period. In terms of total earnings from exports, it registered an increase of 46.68 percent.

China exported 2662 tons of various silk goods earning US $114 million with the average unit price of US $42.89 / kg for the months of January and February. In total silk exports, silk goods accounted for 20.06 percent. The top five export markets of silk categories were India, Italy, Pakistan, Japan, and South Korea for this period.

In silk exports, raw silk, silk yarn, twisted yarn were three principal commodities with a lion share of 79.83 percent of total silk exports.

In different categories, raw silk exports registered an increase of 6.81 percent on year to year basis. China exported 927 tons of raw silk worth US $48.19 million with an average unit price of US $52/ kg. In terms of total value it registered a growth rate of 64.46 percent and 53.98 growth rate in terms of average unit price.

In twisted silk yarn segment, exports stood at 495 tons with a decline of 16.43 percent. It earned US $25.91 million from the twisted silk yarn exports showing an increase of 18.9 percent. For this variety, the average unit price marked US $52.33/ kg, an increase of 42.28 percent on year to year basis.

China exported 703 tons of silk yarn worth US $18.10 million. While its export quantity declined by 6.53 percent, export earnings registered an increase of 36.88 percent on year to year basis. For this variety, the average unit price was 46.65 higher compared to the previous year at US $25.74/ kg.

China's exports of silk goods to India declined 0.66 percent standing at 1,000 tons. It exported goods worth US $51.29 million to India, earning 54.51 percent more on year to year basis.

Exports to Italy were 18.06 percent at 328 tons. For Italy, the export value reached US $13.93 million, an increase of 59.67 percent on year to year basis.

China's exports to Pakistan declined significantly. China exported 274 tons of silk goods witnessing a big decline of 40.85 percent. It recorded negative growth rate of 49.88 percent with a total export value of US $3.05 million on year to year basis.
