Turkish textile sector to go organic with vengeance

Emre Kizilgünesler, Chairman of Aegean Clothing Manufacturers' Association, or EGSD, recently while speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the country's first organic textile trade fair, said that, Turkey is all set to grow its exports of organic textiles.

The country's overall textile exports for 2010 came to $15 billion, while its organic textile exports touched $60 million, with global organic textile market touching $6.8 billion, he said and added that, the country presently exports organic textile products to over 30 countries, and intends to boost its share in the world market in near future.

The trade show organised by the EGSD in the western province of Izmir commenced on April 14 and will went on till April 16.

Globally renowned firms like H&M, Otto, Adidas, Puma, Nike, GAP, Marks & Spencer, participated in the trade fair along with other textile companies from Belgium, France, Germany, Denmark, Poland, Spain, the Netherlands, Jordan and the UK.

A seminar on "Sustainable Business Opportunities for the Turkish Textile Industry" was also organised on the sidelines of the fair, which too attracted participation of representatives from major textile firms.
