A plan to establish a Textile Special Economic Zone (SEZ) at Sholapur has been scrapped by the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC).
This move of the MIDC is being looked upon to be obstructing the progress of the backward Sholapur district, which has a number of textile mills, and hence it was being foreseen that establishment of SEZ would provide a boost to the region's development.
The Corporation had allocated 103 hectares in Mohol for establishing the textile SEZ, which was planned to go operational by end of 2011. However, on March 25, MIDC moved a proposal to shelve the plan for this textile SEZ.
