Manipur Commerce and Industries Minister, Y. Erabot recently stated that, with a view to develop handloom and handicrafts, the State Government and the Commerce and Industry Department are planning to establish a textile park at Loitangkhunou.
Directorate of Commerce & Industries (DIC), Manipur organized a function to disburse cheques to the Handloom Cluster under the Integrated Handloom Development Scheme.
T. Rajen Singh, General Manager of DIC, Imphal West said that, the Central government introduced the Integrated Handloom Development Scheme in 2007-08 which was to be implemented during the 11th Five-Year plan (2007-2012) and that the current financial year is the last phase for implementation of the plan.
The scheme, he said has four main constituents – the Cluster Approach, Group Approach, Marketing Incentive to societies and Strengthening State Level Handloom Organizations.
The Handloom Cluster Project is one of these components. Of this, the department has successfully executed the first part – the Cluster Approach with the help of DICs functioning at district levels, while Government of India's sanction has been sought for implementation of rest of the three components, he added.
