A cotton producers body in the biggest cotton producing country in sub-Saharan Africa has rejected the hike in the minimum price; farmers will be paid in the new cotton season 2011-12.
Cotton growers in Burkina Faso have been given a 35 percent hike for their 2011-12 cotton crops. The new price announced is 245 CFA francs or $0.55 per kilogram.
The cotton body has demanded a 100 percent hike in the latest announced minimum support price saying that cost of inputs like fertilizers have increased tremendously.
However all the farmer's bodies have not supported the demand for CHF 500 per kilogram.
