Quake effect: Japanese caustic soda output down in March

According to the official statistics released by the Japan Soda Industry Association (JSIA), Japan's caustic soda production dropped by 10 percent to 306,311 tons during March as over same period of previous year.
Domestic sales of caustic soda registered a fall of one percent to 293,242 tons during the period, while global exports plummeted by 44 percent to 44,426 tons.
The chemical industry of the country consumed 153,976 tons of caustic soda during March this year, which is 5.2 percent below the last year's consumption, JSIA stated.
The devastating earthquake of March 11, which afflicted Japan's north-eastern region, hit 20 percent of the country's caustic soda production.
