Dow Chemical will build its proposed on-purpose propylene plant at its complex in Freeport – Texas, said a top official of the company.
Dow had first announced on April 21 that, it would set-up set up two on-purpose propylene plants.
Andrew Liveris – CEO of Dow revealed that, a world-scale propylene plant would be built at Freeport, which would be operational by 2015. The start-up of the second unit is planned for 2018.
Once the two plants are operational, the two plants would add 900,000 tons per annum, to Dow's propylene capacity.
Once these plants are operational, Dow will have to source only 10 percent of its propylene requirement from outside sources.
Dow is also mulling raising ethylene output by as much 2.3 million tons per annum. To do so, Dow will restart an idle naphtha cracker in Louisiana by 2012.
Other than this Dow will also improve or hike feedstock flexibility for its naphtha crackers at its Plaquemine and Freeport by 2014. Dow also plans to construct an ethylene production plant on the US Gulf Coast by 2017.
