The New York Cotton Futures as well as the Cotlook A Index dropped at the beginning of the reported week. At last a slight recovery could be observed.
The expected relaxation of the shipping situation in West Africa, probably good crops in countries of the Southern hemisphere, decreasing demand and obviously high yarn stocks worldwide as well as price adjustments for synthetic fibres influenced the domestic market, too. Offers for near dates featured a large price range and still reflected limited availability.
The processing industry, though, has not had the urge to purchase and observed the development of the cotton prices with regard to the 3rd quarter 2011. There was no turnover in the long and extra long staple range.
Only the following medium staple cottons were traded: Central Asia and West Africa for the 2nd quarter 2011 and Argentina for the 3rd quarter 2011.
