China totally imported 1.946 million tons of cotton beginning from September 2010 till April 2011, representing an increase of 13 percent, year on year.
In the first four months of the current year, China's total imports registered 1.06 million tons, down 9 percent year on year.
Editorial note –
There are only two factors which can explain the plunge in cotton imports. Either, the textile enterprises are carrying considerable cotton inventories or they are waiting for cotton prices to dip further or turn stable, before they stock up on new inventories.
