Japan's Mitsubishi Chemical Corp has said that the maintenance work on the No.2 naphtha cracker at its Kashima plant would be delayed.

According to a company spokesman, the company is in the process of replenishing its petrochemical product inventories that were depleted due to the damage caused by the March 11 earthquake to its main Kashima complex.

The company plans to restart the 453,000 tonnes per year (tpy) No.2 cracker around May 20 and the 375,000 tpy No.1 cracker on June 27.

Originally, the company had planned to conduct maintenance on the No.2 cracker from June 30 to August 17. But now, the maintenance would be put off by at least two months and the final maintenance schedule is yet to be finalised.
