Building on its reputation for sustainable, high performance fabric solutions, Glen Raven Custom Fabrics has introduced Heritage – a Sunbrella furniture fabric featuring 50 percent recycled content. With a homespun look and extensive color palette, the fabric is an expansion of the existing Sunbrella Renaissance Collection of recycled products.

“We continue to see customers looking for products with green characteristics,” said Suzie Roberts, vice president and furniture fabrics business manager for Glen Raven Custom Fabrics, makers of Sunbrella fabrics. “A recycled furniture fabric is an obvious next step for our Renaissance program and fills a unique niche in our line for those customers who want a beautiful fabric that also tells a story.”

Heritage is a blend of post-industrial recycled Sunbrella and Sunbrella virgin fiber, that helps ensure that the product meets stringent Sunbrella performance standards. The recycled content comes from cutting table waste from various customers, as well as fiber, yarn and fabric waste from the Sunbrella manufacturing facility. The waste is segmented into color groups, reduced back to its fiber state and then dosed with Sunbrella virgin fiber before making its way through the manufacturing process.

Heritage is available in twelve colors that center on a neutral palette, ranging from light brown to rich earth tones. All of the fabrics have a homespun look which comes from the recycling process, adding depth and texture to the color range. Colors in the collection are Papyrus, Ashe, Alpaca, Wheat, Moss, Leaf, Pumpkin, Garnet, Mink, Denim, Granite and Char.

“The Heritage fabric colors coordinate beautifully with more decorative jacquards and textures from the Sunbrella furniture fabric line,” said Gina Wicker, design and creative director for Glen Raven Custom Fabrics. “The fabric is the ideal weight for upholstery and umbrellas and can serve as the central fabric of a design scheme or a complement to existing patterns.”

Heritage will be featured in the new Sunbrella Furniture Fabric Stock Book to be released to customers in August/September. Heritage carries the same five-year warranty as other Sunbrella furniture fabrics.

Celebrating 50 years of innovation in 2011, the Sunbrella brand revolutionized the way the world thinks of beautiful performance fabrics with its entrance to the marketplace in 1961. Today, durable, easy-care Sunbrella fabrics are available in thousands of sophisticated styles, patterns and colors for wherever people live, work and play.
